James Buchanan: Ferguson is a brand name used by Comet. I'm don't think they have online manuals. Please do this www.ukfree.tv link icon My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice to your TV.

hi
we have a digital tv and a digital dvd box decoder. We are also using an internal aerial.

The TV picks up no chanels at all on search, but the box can pick up about 11 chanels incl the bbc chanels. but no itv (pal2?) ?

any suggestions to help get the tv to pick up "All" chanels ?

thanks

Hi

I have got a tv which has freeview built in and I have connected to sky dish, but when I retuned tv I only got the BBC and Radio stations no freeview channels, which I do get on another tv that I have connected to same sky dish.

Gavin: FreeVIEW TVs need to be connected to a UHF aerial, not to a satellite dish. There are FreeSAT TVs that expect to be connected to a dish.

Freeview TV aerial connectors just push in to the set or box, whereas satellite connections are threaded. Some aerial installers use threaded connections throughout, only converting to a plain connection for the last cable, because the threaded connections are generally more reliable, so you might have the other sort of connection.

If it is a Freeview TV, as you're fairly close to the Sandy Heath transmitter, you may pick up enough signal just in the cables. Different sets have different sensitivity - minimum signal requirement - so that could be why one works and another doesn't, or that the different lengths of cable produce different results.

It is possible to combine aerial and satellite dish signals onto the same cable (a diplexer) and to split them again at the other end. The signals from dish to box are at a higher frequencies than the signals from aerial to TV, so you can actually plug the combined connection into either device and it should work, if this has been done.

If you have an aerial and Freeview worked reliably before mid-April, you may have too much signal. If there's an amplifier or booster in the system, remove it or turn it down. If that doesn't help, add an attenuator.

kmurray: We really need a full postcode to offer much advice. Different equipment has different minimum signal requirements, so that can explain why some services work and some don't. Also, the 'loop-through' connection from the box to the TV often introduces extra noise or additional unwanted gain - you might get better results by using a 'Y' splitter to feed each box from the same aerial cable, rather than connecting the TV to the box.

The 'fly lead' supplied for connecting the box to the TV is often poor quality. See www.aerialsandtv.com link icon Online Satellite/TV/FM/DAB Cable, Leads and Connectors sales. for a better quality replacement. A poor quality lead will drop more signal and pick up more noise.

Brian: These codes are for a LOGIK L32DIGB20 tv They may well be ok for your model, it also depends on which version of remote you have, but worth a try. 0221 0033 0061 0039 0726, you may also try these with out the first 0. Good luck.

Hello,

I am having trouble with my Logik TV (it's a HD 1080p Digital LCD with DVD Player). The TV is not recognising the remote control (this is the one which it orginally came with). They have worked fine together up until this point. I have replaced the batteries with new ones and the remote lights up red when I press buttons on it but the TV is just not recognising it. I would appreciate any help with this problem!

Thanks.

Sarah: It could be that the infra-red receiver on the TV set has been damaged.

One thing to check for is that you don't have an energy-saving light shining brightly nearby.
Sarah
Monday 8 August 2011 6:49PM
Thank you for your comment back Brian. I don't have an energy saving light shining nearby so it must be something to do with the infra-red receiver on the TV. Do you know whether this is something that can be fixed?

Thanks.
Briantist
Monday 8 August 2011 7:31PM
Sarah: It should be fixable, but it isn't something you could do yourself. If you have had the set for less than two years the retailer you got it from should fix it for free for you (or indeed replace it).

Sarah is it during day time or all the time sometimes very brigth sunlight can cause this also does the remote have a button on the top that says tv if it does try pressing it some remotes can do other things by pressing other buttons.
Sarah
Tuesday 9 August 2011 4:11PM
Thanks for both of your comments Brian and Mazbar.

Mazbar: It isn't just during the day-time that it isn't working. I have pressed every single button on the remote and nothing happens, so I think it must be a problem with the infra red receiver, like Brian mentioned.

Brian: I bought my TV last June and it was only under warranty for a year, so I doubt that they will fix it for me free of charge now. I will call into the retailer and see what they say though.

Thanks again.

Tuesday 9 August 2011 5:49PM
Sarah: There is one final test you can do to check if the infra red "sender" on the remote control is still working.

The procedure is, if you have a digital camera switch it on and hold the remote control in front of the camera lens so that you can see it clearly on the cameras LCD screen, then whilst watching press any button on the remote and hold it for a few seconds, if the remotes sender is working you will see a flickering white dot showing up on the cameras screen.

This test of course only tests the infra red sender device itself.
Sarah
Tuesday 9 August 2011 6:04PM
jb38: Thanks for that comment. I was wondering how I would know whether it was the infra-red receiver on the TV that was broken or whether it was the infra-red sender on the remote control. I have just tested it using my camera and I did see a flickering white dot so it mustn't be the remote control.

Mazbar: I have just unplugged the TV from the mains and this hasn't worked either.

Thanks to everyone for your help but it looks like I'm going to have to take it back to the retailer and see if they can fix it.
Mike Dimmick
Tuesday 9 August 2011 6:40PM
Sarah: Do first check that the receiver window on the TV is clean and that there isn't anything blocking the path from the remote to the receiver. It can often be as simple as that.
Sarah
Tuesday 9 August 2011 6:51PM
Mike: Thanks, but this was one of the first things which I checked. I cleaned the receiver window on the TV as well as the infra-red sender on the remote but still no luck.

I just wish this had happened two months earlier, as then it would still be under warranty. It's just frustrating!

I purchased Ferguson FO1SDBE digi box but cannot get any sound. I suspect I am connected to the text channel on the TV which may be the problem Please tell me how I can change this please. The TV does not have scart socket.
jb38
Sunday 4 September 2011 8:19AM
Terence Carpenter: If you have connected your TV into the Freeview boxes RF output and carried out a scan on your "analogue" TV, then that should have picked up the boxes output, likewise anything seen being from the box.

However, as you havent mentioned where you are located its not known if analogue signals can still be received, so to save confusion carry out the above "without" the aerial being connected into the box, then anything seen will only be from the box.

After completion, you will then have to replace the aerial into the box and carry out a complete scan on the box to pick up the Freeview channels.

Please be aware though that these boxes are not without their problems!

Briantist
Saturday 10 September 2011 10:31AM
l.dawe : I'm not sure what you mean by "teletext" in this instance. The teletext services closed at switchover, do you mean the digital text services, or do you mean the services provided by Teletext Ltd, such as Teletext Holidays?

How do I retune Alba model no. ALCD15TVX1?
Mike Dimmick
Monday 12 September 2011 12:13PM
D.Daly: This appears to be an Argos own-brand TV. Argos don't seem to offer any post-sales support. Check the manual, and look for a 'Full Retune', 'Full Reset', 'Default Setting' or 'First-Time Installation' option.

I have a topbox called TVONICS. I would like to be able to access the ALBA television channel which, I understand, should be available throughout Scotland. Can you help?
Dave Lindsay
Monday 26 December 2011 9:16PM
P. Richards: BBC Alba is on logical channel number (LCN) 8 in Scotland and transmitted on BBC A multiplex.

Is there an option to add services or manually tune to the RF/UHF channel used for BBC A for your transmitter. I can't tell you what it is without knowing your transmitter or your location direction of your aerial.

You might be able to go on to one of the BBC LCNs and find it on the strength screen.

They say that the default PIN is 0000.

I suggest that you download the manual and keep it somewhere safe:

Friday 9 March 2012 5:25PM
bill: These sets can develop odd faults of this nature, and about the only thing you can do with a set such as this is to disconnect it from the mains power supply for a few minutes before re-connected it again as I dont "think" (not 100% sure) that there is a system reset facility on that TV, if though it still doesnt respond after having done this then harsh it might seem, there really isnt anything that you can do about as its tuner control system has failed.

I live in EC1 - I am 'supposed' to get a full range of freeview. (checked on digital uk) I have a new arial on the roof of my block of flats - installed by landlord - Council. My TV is Toshiba 26WLT66 - freeview tuner inbuilt.
After more messing around - I do get a poor reception on the ITV range (ITV 1, 2, channel 4, E4 etc) - but signal is very poor, and keeps fliping back into auto set-up. Its not happy.
Advice please
