my 92 year old mother-in-law has a Sony KD-32NX100U - with built in Freeview. Having checked on various forums, it would indicate that this set will not retune as it is only 2k & not 8k compatible. can anyone confirm that this will be the case - it is inompatible with what is to come.
I also have this 2k problem with an old Pioneer DBRT210GBS STB used for a bedroom tv - this i will bin and get a new tv

I have checked the sony KD-32NX100U by way of using the remote in service mode to check internal spec & it does indeed show an 8k spec capability - but the software version is 3.5 and apparently there have been ota software upgrades in the past that this set has not picked up - despite having auto upadtes being switched on - so remains to be seen if this one time expensive set (£2500) is now a white elephant - maybe the gov scheme could help her out - m-in-law is 92 after all

Mike C: The changes on Wednesday do not in any way change the transmission mode. Channels are moving their multiplexes, that is all.

No modern TV will ever be turned into a "white elephant" by digital switchover, but some will require the use of a set-top box.

The Help Scheme will provide a box, when switchover happens in your region.

We hav e Sony DVD RecorderRDR-HXD770. Have been repeatedly retuning all day. Follow instructions, reset over 100 channels including Channel 5. Everything confirmed but still when we try to view Channel 5 on Freeview, the same message is shown telling us to retune. Our Sony manual confirms that we are doing everything to the book so why can't we watch 5 now? The Olivers

Oliver: You must delete the channel list before scanning. If there is no menu option to do this, use this method www.ukfree.tv link icon My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent digital TV + switchover advice, since 2002 please.

My mum has a Viewquest tv with built-in Freeview. I've carried out a retune as directed in the manual but all I seem to be left with is some radio channels. The 'retune' appears to be fine with all the channels appearing on the display screen but after it is complete there is nothing but radio available! I get a 'save flash succesful' message which infers that all is ok but nothing but radio!! Help!

I found that the helpline was very helpful for my Astratec DV3. In the end, they advised that after retuning (which I had done and had a blank screen) I should unplug the Freeview. I did this and it now works!

happily my Pioneer DBRT210GBS STB did retune and gives all the new channels - wasn't expecting that since it is only 2k spec - but 92 year old mother -in - laws sony KD-32NX100U - despite having 8k spec capability will not retune - freezes at 40% & sony advised repair shop say it is a model that will not retune - so separate stb required - so much for future proof expensive at the time (£2500) sony tv with 'freeview' capability

Im have an L&G DVD recorder which I have tried to retune but it will only pick up channels 1-5 ie BBC1, BBC2, ITV, channel 4 and Five. Its instruction book says it will is capable of receiving 88 channels. How can I get t to accept the other freeview channels eg BBC3 and BBC4? I live with sight of the Crystal Palace aerial.

Many thnaks David Moore

Mike C: The 8k change only happens at switchover. It is very disappointing when Sony doesn't come up to scratch.
Briantist
Friday 2 October 2009 12:39PM
David Moore: Sounds like you are scanning for analogue channels, not digital ones.
