There is a mistake on the page for the Tunbridge Wells transmitter. Here is a copy of the text:

Freeview power increase from 100 W to 4,000 W, 0 times stronger.

Up until about 10 days ago no problems with signal from Sutton Coldfield transmitter at B23 5NQ. Since then MUX1 is very poor strength and quality so can't view. Also Transmitter now comes up has West Midlands. Any ideas. I know there has been some work going on with the SC transmitter and was wandering if we have to reposition ariel?

Hi,

I have been using a Freesat set top box with my old CRT TV. I just upgraded to a LCD TV today with built in Freeview.

Is there a way of connecting my satelite cable to the TV to take advantage of the built in freeserve?

The TV doesnt appear to have a satelite input, but has every other type of input going.

Can you help? Would love to reduce my remotes down to one :)

Thanks

Glenn

Glenn Cox: The HDMI input on your set (and hopefully the output on your set-top box) is the way to get the digital data to the screen. The DVB-T ("Freeview") reception circuits are not designed for this.

Richard Preece: Yes, if you look to the transmitter, you can now see two masts.

The current services are being moved to the backup mast so the post-switch-over transmitter equipment will then be installed on the main mast.

Whilst this work is being done, the power levels are low. Please see the information at the top of this page - www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview on Sutton Coldfield TV transmitter | ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002

I have a problem with channel 32 on the Rowridge transmitter! I have received Freeview for at least five years or more, however this present problem has only occurred since the rowridge channels were re-allocated in March!
Having said all that this seems to be only at
certain times of the day, as though a neighbour, has a new TV or perhaps plaything but how do I start with this, and further more cure the problem?

I'm in the fortunate posiiton of travelling all over the UK and mainland Europe with my work. I travel around in my caravan onto which I have installed a roof mounted satellite dish which is connected to a Sky decoder box and I usually receive Sky perfectly. I know there are many foreign language channels available and that I would need another decoder box, but are any of these channels available from the Sky Astra 2 staellite (28.2 degrees) or will I have to have a second LNB on an extension on the same dish?

nicola: Your transmitter switches on Wednesday 18th November 2009, please see www.ukfree.tv link icon Llanddona digital switchover date | ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002 for more.

Freesat comes from a satellite (thus the name) and has nothing to do with your TV aerial or the Llanddona transmitter.

But yes, quite a few people have reported problems. Can you describe yours?

What i was trying to say was..........i have a Humax digibox and it used to be fine, no problems untill the change at Rowidge, now i find that it keeps freezing sometimes just for a min and others times i have to turn it off and back on again and it seems to have corrected itself. When i phoned Humax they said they are getting a lot of people coming through to them from this area and they said that it was the transmitter not the box. I was wondering if and when it all goes over we will still be having this problem, at the moment i can go over to the normal channels which i won't be able to do when it all gors digital. (map)

I have just cancelled my Sky subscription. Is it possible to receive all free to air channels via my existing Sky box and Sat Dish?
Briantist
Friday 31 July 2009 11:53AM
ozzie: Well, my opinion would be that the fault is with the Humax software that can't understand something about the transmission, rather than the other way around.
The changes at Rowridge were just a shuffle of the frequencies used. It might have been necessary to restore some boxes by doing a "factory reset", as some older boxes don't like channels moving around.
But a "freezing" problem sounds more like a reception issue than a software one. It could be that the re-ordered frequencies are causing problems, but that would be not limited to a single box maker.
I hope it can be fixed earlier than March 2012. www.ukfree.tv link icon Rowridge digital switchover date | ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002

Hi Briantist: Do you know of a webb site I could refer to? Using my old sky+box (U/S Hard Drive) - what do I need to do in order for it to be used as a stand alone free view box by purchasing a one off payment of £20 from sky.
Kindest regards

Hi, we have just got our new lg plasma tv and want to connect the ntl box without using a scart. Is it possible to have the box on one side of the room and to digitally transmit to the tv? We do not want wires every where.
Briantist
Monday 3 August 2009 8:43PM
kay: You can, but you will may find the degraded picture noticable on a big TV. Shop for deals | offers | discounts | bargains for example. You can get a V+ box with HD and use HDMI, which is a less obtrusive cable.

Further to my problem with channel 32 on the Rowridge transmitter, I think that I have now
got to the bottom of the problem.

I use a Thompson DVR, and a Phillips Freeview
receiver, and it appears that with new Rowridge channel configuration, these two receivers cannot co-exist as they seem block one another out! I think that I am reasonably sure that it is not the neighbours installation that is causing it!

Is there a device on the market that allows me to combine two rf inputs (freeview and rf out from sky box ) and have four outputs. I want to have the option of freeview to four tv's but also sky controlled from the sky box dowstairs. thx john
Briantist
Wednesday 5 August 2009 6:05AM
john: Just pass the aerial signal though the Sky box first, and use the RF1 or RF2 output to drive your other sets. You can use a powered four-output amplifier to get the signal to the other sets.

I am watching freesat with a sky box after I stopped the subscription. Am I able to buy another skybox privately and connect it to another TV in the house please, or even two more? Will sky sell me a 2nd or 3rd viewing card without subscription for freesat? Can I record programs with an independent DVD recorder thro the sky box? Cheers. Margaret
Briantist
Monday 10 August 2009 12:39PM
margaret: You can attach as many satellite receivers to the dish as you want, but you must have an "LNB output" for each box.

This mean a "quad LNB" will provide outputs for four boxes. Swapping over a single LNB (the thing on the end of the "arm" of the dish) for a quad one is straighforward, but does require the right tools.

You can use Freesat boxes (rather than Sky) boxes for each other TV, the can be bought from most large electrical stores.

Satellite's one-to-one relationship between boxes and LNB also means you need a cable from the dish to each box.

Sky will, if you call them on 0870 606 1111 will provide up to four Freesat cards per home.

what size of dish do i need for astra sat in CYPRUS?
Briantist
Tuesday 11 August 2009 7:43AM
thanos: The Astra 2D signals are directed at the UK, reception of them from as far outside their "footprint" may need a 3m or 5m dish. You probably should contact a local contractor.

Saturday 15 August 2009 10:31AM

Having cancelled my Sky account I now receive free satellite stations, but would also like to be able to receive Freeview stations. Having acquired a Freeview box is it possible to connect both this and the Sky Box to get all the available free channels? If so what's the best way of connecting them to each other, to the TV, and to the video recorder?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.
Briantist
Tuesday 18 August 2009 8:54AM
Fred Flange: It's not off, there was just a stray invalid character in there, that I have now removed. You should be able to use the feed again.
Briantist
Tuesday 18 August 2009 8:57AM
Lee Brown: Yes, you can connect what you like to your TV.

You should probably not bother with the Video Recorder, Freeview+ boxes are not very expensive and a much better option.

Use the best connection to connect to the TV. If your TV has HDMI, get a Freeview+ box with that output.

If not, your TV will have several SCARTS.
