Dean Ensor: No, there is only a four hour slot available. TCM is a subscription channel.

Acrimony? It's excellent news and, with only two news channels on Freeview, CNN is a welcome addition on a platform that contains far too much... well, let's be polite and call it trivia. And how many shopping and pop video channels can anyone stand? A great addition, I say. Incidentally, I noticed a ghost immage on the BBC2 test card the other morning, when the BBC was doing that much-discussed disaster simulation. I have clean BBC2 analogue reception, however. Any thoughts? Was this ghost being retransmitted by Sudbury from an off-air feed?

Ray: There was some suggestion that "Nuts TV" was not "up to sratch".

CNN International is probably a better world-view than Nuts TV!

There's only two music channels on Freeview, not that many really.

I think the concensus was that the test card had a slight modification to indicate an alternative source.

CNN is the most tedious, boring News station in the world with the worst presentation.. I've been in many a country where it is the only English language station and it has driven me mad. Not a channel which should be taking up British bandwidth in my opinion.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this defeats the point of 24 news... Why is it only for 4 hours? Whats the point!

At what time in the day are the UK Transmitters at there most powerful for tuning in digital television?

Quote by Brian - I think the concensus was that the test card had a slight modification to indicate an alternative source.
The RBS worked up to some point in the chain, and then dropped out. The speaking clock continued to be radiated and it sounded like a video amp failure at one of the RBS receivers. There was a large time delay...

Jordy: I suppose if you like CNN it is way better than none, and at least some of it is in peak hours, not like those "6am-9am" blocks we once got...
Briantist
Wednesday 14 January 2009 6:47PM
John: They are at the same level 24 hours a day.
Jordy
Wednesday 14 January 2009 7:27PM
Brian - Well it's a lot better than NUTS TV and a much better use of the platform...
Briantist

Jordy: There don't seem to be many complaints about that channel going, as I recall.

So can we agree that Nuts will not be missed. Freeview no longer need carry a health warning - may contain Nuts. I do concede, though, that CNN can be extremely dull when compared with other news services. Guess I am just a news junkie. And I have to declare an interest - that of being a former colleague of one of the evening 'anchors', who I have to say has developed an annoying mid-Atlantic presentation style since I knew her. That's CNN, I supppose.

Re CNN, I did an update scan on my IDTV yesterday and channel 84 did not register. Nuts TV is, however, still there on 42! Sudbury is my local TX.

Ray: Try again today I guess, the channel is supposed to be on air tonight.

Ray: I think NutsTV was very disappointing for people who bought Freeview because it was "safe" compared to the satellite platform. Freeview was a good choice for "the kids bedroom". Still, they can still see all that same stuff online...

Ray, Yes i will certainly agree with you that CNN is a much better option than NUTS TV and i'm going to assume it's tied to that magazine. Bit of a news junkie myself but prefare the beeb coverage than sky's because it never shuts up the recession... Also it must be annoying for the elderly. Not so long ago i had my dad over for a meal and he was sitting in the living room, came into the kitchen worried that there had been 3 train crashes all in Cumbria in the same place, he thought another world war had broken out or this was a Harbinger of Apocalypse... I had to sit him down and explain 24 hour news and that there had been a bulletin every 15 minutes and it was only one train crash!

I have just switched the TV on and a notice came up on the screen showing that a new DVB service had been found. So doing a scan, CNN is now on channel 84 and Nuts TV as gone.

Speaking of music channel - TMF is hardly one. It dedicated most of its time to repeats of MTV's reality rubbish. What a waste of time.

I wish Freeview would have some kind of channel quality control - then we could have 8 new 24 hours (or near) channels instead of:
Channel 4+1, QVC UK, Ideal World, bid tv, Dave +1, E4 +1, ITV2 +1, SmileTV 2.

I'm afraid the lunatic acountants are now in charge of the madhouse. Quality control is an alien concept on a platform that is led by commercial imperatives. Anything that can't pay its way is a non-starter. Ofcom has nothing to say on the subject of programme standards where taste or decency is not an issue.

The demise of ITV as a broadcaster of diverse content is extremely sad and it's depressing to contemplate that even when, as now, the channel has managed to shed its public service responsibilities ITV is still in desperate financial straits.

Channels are now two-a-penny but the stock of talent remains the same. So it's this plus one and that plus one and repeats ad nauseam. The butter is spread rather thinly on the bread. Have you ever thought that broadcasters - and I exclude the BBC - just don't give a damn anymore? Now I'm sounding like a grumpy old man, but never has that big switch marked ON/OFF been so useful. I have to say I don't watch any more TV now than I did before Freeview was invented. Most of the digital-only content is wholly dismal - with the exception of BBC4 in my humble opinion.

I'm not sure, incidentally, that I will be devoting much time to CNN. The home-grown news product is far superior. Sorry for this negative post.

MTV was a good channel at one time with programs like the Chill out Zone and Party Zone.
Now it is full of rubbish!
Looking at the lists it no longer looks like a Music Channel.

I was looking at Rockworld TV the other day and it was refreshing to see the Group Alien Sex Fiend playing my favourite song Ignore the Machine. There a Gothic Rock Band.

Fox News and NDTV are the only 2 news channels that are encrypted.

I have sky, but as you all know by now i do not subscribe.

I don't have freeview, however i can see where Alex is coming from, that channel line-up doesnt sound very good, though it is good that Dave have gone freeview.
On sky it is still encrypted and probably will be til the end of time.

Ray is absolutely right, there is no quality control.
I see this on Sky TV with channels like E! Entertainment and many others.

Jordy. Anything apart from E! Entertainment is better than Nuts TV.

I notice that since TCM became a Subscription
Channel, it has got worse in it's film line-up.

Alex: I really can't disagree that more choice of channels would be much better than the "+1"s as they fail to add options for both live and in particular PVR users of Freeview.

Can anyone help? Since the power failure to the mast at Monksilver during the bad snowfall. On it’s return. I have been unable to receive ITV 1. I can receive all BBC channels but find that the channel 4 programme is now in the ITV 1 channel position, the ITV 1 being unobtainable.
