There have been problems with the service from time to time, but the picture quality is very good.

Ud imagine that theirs a big delay, but watching BBC on TVCatchup is a few seconds faster then Sky!

Ive been registered a few weeks, no problems so far and they have added that new'ish channel Dave.

Adam H: I've had a single problem when the picture when I was watching BBC TWO last Sunday, aside from that, I think it is rather brilliant.

I'm pleased to say that 86 people have signed up from the above link already! Click www.tvcatchup.com link icon TVCatchup - Never Miss A Show Again to join them!

Barty45: That's a big shame for Sky Broadband users, but I guess if you have Sky you probably can watch the channels on TVCatchup already...

Yes, just tried it and it works on sky broadband.
Your router or your firewall might be blocking it Barty45

I found TVCatchup is up and running with my Sky Broadband subscription, and the TV is now homeless! A great service, could do with a volume control and screen resize.

uche oji: You can make it full screen by right clicking and selecting from the menu, and they have just changed the icons to an overlay which is much nicer (but won't spider!) - you get the the volume control by click on the play area, a little bar pops up.

You should really get ready for big changes in TVCatchup over the next few weeks, including a world's first, so pop on over there and witness something truly unique.
Great article by the way :)

steve: Let me know in advance and I'll happily do another post.

You made the day of a good friend's girlfriend the other day, she had poor Freeview reception and you have brought Film4 and Channel 4 back into her life!

I look forward to the announcement.

Genrally a good service.
Good choice of channels.
Currently there are often problems with the service at weekends - possibly due to peek demands and lack of staff working at weekends - well who wants to and also it costs them more - so I WILL NOT complain, especially for a free service with so little advertising on it.
I can not remember the last time I rated anything as 9 out of 10, BUT
I rate TVCATCH as 8 out of 10 and if they get the weekends sorted out, then possibly 10 out of 10.

I live in an area with no freeview and poor quality terestrial (BBC2 often disapears and no ch5). My TV is connected to my PC and I now have all channles and it's perfect.
Brilliant service!!!!!!!!

There does seem to be a big delay in the broadcast of programs, but that doesn't bother me.

Tom : BBC News Channel on line from their website is actally ahead of Freeview by a couple of seconds making the clock almost correct !!!
Briantist
Sunday 31 January 2010 7:55AM
Tom: Due to the way "temporal compression" works on digital TV, this means the digital broadcast is many milliseconds behind the analogue one, and the online stream slightly more.

Cass: If you had a full Freview service before, I would have thought you need to have your rooftop aerial looked at, but also see www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Until the council eventually get around to installing the communial digital aerial system in these tower blocks I have no option but to use TV CatchUp for my TV. Unfortunately, though, I get nothing but trouble with it as it gives about 3 seconds picture, followed by about 30 seconds buffering the signal - if I'm lucky. Otherwise it then times out altogether & closes the connection. I've checked my Broadband Connection speed & that's fine, so that's not the problem.

Hiya Brian
We've just moved to BTVision at BN108AT and... No freeview! ANy thoughts - I've looked at your site not exactly sure what it's telling me - BT say they have no freewview avaliable as there info for this site though they also say that is likely to be wrong.
The analogue signal is very poor to - looking at the aerial cable it is in v. bad condition - black unhealthy copper etc...
Any thoughts welcome!
Many thanks
Toby
Great site btw!

Tony Lindsay: I would say that you are probably receiving your analogue TV from Newhaven relay transmitter. This is based not only on the Digital UK predictor, but a look at Google Streetview which shows the vast majority of aerials facing Newhaven.

A poor analogue picture is not forced to be the condition of your cable; it could be because your TV is tuned to a signal from another transmitter (to which your aerial does not face). The four analogue services are on channels 39,45,43,41 from Newhaven.

Come switchover, you will only get multiplexes BBCA (the BBC TV and radio channels), D3&4 (ITV1, ITV1+1, ITV2, C4, C4+1, E4, More4 and C5) and the HD channels.

See here for information on multiplexes:
www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview multiplexes | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

If you wish to get the other commercial multiplexes, then you will need another aerial on another transmitter that broadcasts these services *if* you can receive from such a transmitter at your location.

Hi, The rest of analog channels have been switched off for London, so for TV License payment (Regulation 9- '..is received at the same time..'), seems to be crucial interpretation of time delay for TVCatchup streaming. Does it classify TVC programmes as NOT Live ? 'Dave' as well ?

I'm from Brazil and I want so bad to watch bbc programmes!!!!Please it could be available to other countries too
Briantist
Friday 18 May 2012 4:13PM
Andrew: As far as I understand it, TVC went to court and the court decided that TVC was a "retransmission" in the sense of the Television Without Frontiers Directive.

Analogue is a total irrelevance, the meaning of "at the same time" includes the technically necessities of digital transmission and it always has.
Briantist
Friday 18 May 2012 4:14PM
Luisa: You will need to look on the internet elsewhere for details of "proxy servers" that will tell TVC that you are in the UK.
