I live in post-code, EH44 6JJ where Freeview is currently not available, so there is no point in buying a digital-box.
Will it be available in this region, and will there be a period before switching-off the analogue signal after switching-on the digital signal to allow me to buy a digital box?

Having moved houseour sky satellite signal is very tempramental. We have been told that this is because there are too many trees. We live 2 miles from town. BTvision is not possible because of broadbandspeed being too slow and freeview is not an available. Will we have to continue with such poor reception after 2010? Is there anything we can do in the meantime?

Mary: Your satellite reception is not related to the 'digital switchover'. If you want to improve your satellite reception, you may need to move your dish to another location (perhaps on a pole in the garden) or to get a bigger dish. BT Vision uses Freeview for the main channels, so it is dependent on that. Your broadband speed depends on the distance to the exchange. If you are having problems, and independent satellite TV or aerial installer can probably tell your best options.

You want "Satellite Dish Pointing and Aiming Calculator for UK Ireland Scotland Wales England."

If you type it as above into a search box and save this to your Favourites or Bookmarks you can use this to get this angle. Simply set the Satellite you want and your location and you will get all the required parameters.

Ihave a new digital TV which keeps losing the ITV channels it also has built in freeview. What can be done to sort it out. One moment there is a perfect picture then the screen goes blank. Sometimes for a whole day.

I live in Chadwell Heath, near Romford, greater London.

I have an old-ish analogue TV, and a Panasonic DVD Recorder with a digital tuner, model DMR EX77EB, which I had used to watch Freeview channels (attached to the TV with scart connection).

The DVD recorder has perdiodically updated the channels it receives during the few years that I've owned it, but during the last couple of updates I lost a few digital channels, and then a couple of weeks ago the whole lot went and it won't receive anything.

I bought a Goodmans set-top box today, but that won't receive any digital channels either.

With neither the set-top box, nor the DVD recorder switched on, the TV receives the 5 terrestrial channels, a bit grainy, but watchable, apart from Channel 5 which was always grainy here.

My flat is in a communal building and doesn't have an external aerial on the roof of the traditional 'wire-bar' type, but this hasn't been a problem with receiving digital programmes before.

If anyone has any bright ideas about what has gone wrong and how I can fix it, I would be very grateful - right now I'm just very confused !

If two digital boxes don't work, it sounds like a problem with the aerial or aerial lead.
See if your digital tuners work at a friends house and ask your neighbours in your flat if their TV works.
Also check the the center wire in the aerial lead plug is not bent or broken.
If your tuners work at friends house, report your broken aerial to your landlord.
If you have a very good signal in your area before you lost your picture, you may get a week signal with a small portable TV top aerial.

If you get your signal from Crystal Palace then you are using one of the strongest transmitters in the UK.

I have a Panasonic DMR-EX77EB DVD Recorder and have attached a HDMI cable from the back of the recorder to the TV (TV supplies HD Freeview). How can I get my DVD Recorder to update it's Freeview channels with the HD ones. I'm not sure whether this is possible but I would like to watch one HD channel on the TV whilst the recorder records another HD channel. (I do have Virgin Media V+ box attached to the TV and recorder also.) Thanks

lcresswell: Your Panasonic recorder doesn't have a DVB-T2 tuner, so isn't able to receive the HD Freeview signals.

Hi, I am a freesat user. In the last week I have been unable to view the channel 5 group, 5, 5+1 5* etc. I can initially view it for a few seconds before I get the message - No cross carried data. I have retuned several times and nothing changes. I have been viewing them successfully for some time. I am using a metronic HD 100 box, I am in north Yorkshire. Advice anyone?

chris: When you retuned the box did you precede this by carrying out the "Set defaults" (Restore to Default Settings) procedure?

Hi, I have suffered the self same problem as Chris but on 23/11/12. Symptoms exactly the same as his post Saturday 3rd November 2012.
I have carried the same procedure as Chris and as per jb38's suggestion I did carry out a "Set Defaults" procedure before retuning. Post code set as BD25 5PX (Skipton North Yorks) and tried BD16 1JR (Bingley West Yorkshire)with same result? Interestingly if I select the "Channel Edit" function and select any of the missing Channel 5's I can watch it in the small preview window. Once I return to normal i.e Guide or channel select it reverts again.

T.King / Chris: These two postcodes are too close together to make any difference as far as a test is concerned, try another retune but use a test code of PE6 7XZ and which I have just tested on a Humax FOXSAT-HDR as being OK.
