R A Lewis: Sounds like your aerial has been damaged.

I had many channels to watch until the changeover happened. Now I am not even able to view any of the most important channels IE BBC 1 2 ITV1 Channel 4 and Channel 5.
I have had a new aerial fitted before the changeover which resulted in a good reception over many channels. Now it as I have already said. I rang the people who responsible for updating the system for us over 75s. they told me that I would have to wait until early December before I could retune to get a proper signal.
I have also lost most analogue also, why?

N.Langley: Not sure why you have "lost analogue" as all your transmitters are still transmitting all but BBC TWO.

chukwuma: As with all Freeview devices, a connection to a rooftop aerial is required. See www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview reception - all about aerials | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

My Luxor 250GB DRT digital TV recorder wont turn on got it in January it was fine up untill a few days ago when it woudnt turn on but the standby light was on. what can i do to get it working again???

Jade: Well the rather obvious question would be if you have verified that the remote control batteries are OK, and if they are then try using the buttons on the actual box, if that still doesn't work then unplug the PVR from the mains supply and leave it sitting for about 10 minutes or so before reconnecting the mains again.

If after having carried out these procedures the box still fails to respond then this can suggest that the boxes internal power unit has failed, albeit that the front panel indicator will still be illuminated as it isnt supplied via the power unit.

I was using a set top box downstairs and could get a good variety of channels, we then bought a new telly with freeview built in and everything is fine, moved old set top box upstairs but can only get about 15 channels tried retuning, sometimes it only picks up bbc channels, any ideas surely it's not the aerial if downstairs is fine

jason: The problem that you describe is usually caused by the method used to feed the signal from the main position to another room, although I would advise you to temporarily bring the box downstairs again purely for purposes of carrying out another retune before taking it back upstairs again, because boxes / TV's should "never" be retuned unless its known that changes are taking place at the transmitter, as with the exception of an overloaded memory problem channels are not really lost but have only dropped down under the level that can produce a picture, but by you having re-scanned on a suss connection you will now have lost some channels.

Maybe you could indicate what type of aerial / coax arrangement is being used.

chris: What model of box are you using? as some older types have problems with the new transmission modes being used.

Hi just a lead from box to aerial socket on wall, then scart to telly, im getting about 76% signal downstairs, would running 2 freeviews from same aerial make any difference

jason: Well the best way to find what is causing the problem is to use only the set top box for a test, firstly connect it into the aerial socket you had previously used and after giving it a re-tune make a note of the signal strengths on BBC / ITV1 / ITV3, then take the box upstairs again and after re-connecting it carry out another signal strength test "on the same channels", if they are lower then leave it on the test screen and pull out the TV's aerial plug "downstairs" and check if the levels on the box upstairs has improved any, if they have then it would be better to feed each room view a two way powered splitter as that guarantees that each point will have exactly the same signal level.

This is a better way of doing things anyway unless a person is receiving a high level of signal, as I see that you are only about 1.1/2 miles away from the Wrexham Rhos Freeview light relay station and I did wonder if you are using this, if you are then aerial will be mounted vertically (elements pointing up and down) and you will "not" be receiving ITV3.

What to do is when you try the signal strength test note the mux channel number that's associated with the signal level, if its Wrexham Rhos : BBC 28 - ITV1 22 - HD 25

You are also predicted to be able to receive from another two stations, these being horizontally polarised /

Winter Hill : 62 - 59 - 54(HD) - 58(ITV3) - 61 - 55,

The Wrekin: 26 - 23 - 30(HD) - 41(ITV3) - 44 - 47

I have replaced the set top box the TV and the AERIAL also and the problem I continue to suffer from is freezing of the picture and I have to change channels quickly to return to the channel , on BBC 1 some times it will change to Sky news, is it due to the atmospherics or the Wrekin signal. This does not occur every night but starts around 20.00 can you advise please.FREEVIEW

ALAN ROBERTS: Any query involving a reception issue must be accompanied by a location, this in the form of a post code or one from somewhere nearby e.g: a shop, as its impossible for anyone to advise on a possible reason / cure for the problem without having access to the reception predictor, and something which can only be done armed with this info.

That said though, judging by what you have said atmospherics could well be the cause of your problem dependant on the level your signal strength / quality normally runs at.

Dear Sirs,

I have one question, My new Philips DTR 230 Set top box is working perfectly and I have re-set all channels but I cannot use the volume control on my remote, it does all else eg channel changes and menu corrections.
I am told by my supplier that it is not meant to function and I must use my T.V remote for volume control. Surely this is not the case. Can you please advise which correction to my set-up I need to carry out.
Many thanks

Mr Brian Lennon: If your TV is connected into the boxes AV1 output then it should do but not if using the AV2 out/in, otherwise any recordings that might be made via this connection would be subject to to varying volume levels.

Hi, after just coming back to the UK after being away for some time I have found that my Clarity digital remote is no longer working, I have changed the batteries, checked the battery terminals but still no joy. I the tried to use a Aunion universal remote but found there was no code listed for the Clarity digital box.
Could you please help with either an idea to get the digital remote working or a code for the universal remote?
Thank you,
Anthony
