jan.bailey: Check your scart connection to make sure that it has not slipped out slightly at either end, if it hasnt then you will need to give info on what you are using, that being the model of TV and box!

Hi there
i seem to be having problems tuning the freeview channels in postcode is MK18 5JJ. I have 2 Set top boxes in the house and have "auto searched" a few times but i am eithe losing channels entirely losing channels (either all the BBC ones, or all the ITV ones) or the picture / sound is terrible.
When i do get good service they all appear out of sequence, for example a good ITV1 signal will appear on channel 814. my boxes allow me to reassign channel names so its not a biggy to do this but i dont think this is correct. When i do the auto search i am given the transmitter where the channels are coming from and all the BBC ones come from oxford and the ITV ones come from sandy heath. should they all not be coming from the same transmitter ? is there any way i can tune all the ITV ones from say Oxford and the BBC ones from SH ?
i am going to try the advice of wiping the channel list entirely and starting again but
i would appreciate any help.
thank you

I have just purchased an LG 32LK330U TV (which has inbuilt freeview) and an RF Aerial Cable Kit. I have plugged the cable into the back of the TV and according to LG I should be able to pick up the digital channels on tuning. I have received channels 1 - 5 no problems but none of the digital ones. I have put my postcode into www.digitaluk.co.uk and its says that the standard reception forecast is good and I should receive 66 channels. The HD forecast is also good and I should receive 4 channels. I am 6 miles from the Crystal Palace Transmitter.

Why is my TV not picking up any freeview channels? Please help!

Thanks

Up until the 28th September my Freeview which is in built to my TV was working fine and never had any problems. But now all i get is no signal, i have re-tuned but does nothing.

I have looked on the menu and i don't have an option to reset or do a start over scan. It also does not let me do a Manuel tune like people suggested. I live in Highwoth so i am on the edge of Oxford Does this mean i need to get a new aerial?? i not tried a set top box yet but just seeing if anyone else having problems..

Brendan: Check if your receiver is on the list of equipment that does not support the 8k mode. If it is you will need to connect a Freeveiw box to it to continue receiving terrestrial tv.An aerial which gave good analogue reception before switchover should be perfectly ok now. It is usually only installations with over-large aerials or high gain amplifiers that might now be providing too much signal to the Freeview tuner that will need attention in the Oxford region.

After changeover in April, retuned...no problems. After next changeover in September lost some channels, but still had most of the ones I watch. Intended to get aerial upgrade at some point. Now to my intense annoyance have in the last week lost other channels including QVC. Don't understand this. Was there a third phase of this transmitter work we weren't informed about? Could somebody please explain in simple terms to a very frustrated non-techie in Bromsgrove.

Friday 28 October 2011 5:35PM
Jan: You now need a wideband aerial to receive the commercial multiplexes from the Bromsgrove transmitter. Your existing aerial no longer will receive these services.

I have an LG flat screen tv in the kitchen. I did the first changeover to digital and it worked fine then after the second changeover I got nothing. It has not worked since. I understand we come under the Sutton Coldfield transmitter. Do I need a set top box on this tv? Are flat screen tvs all digital? What do I need to do to get it working again?

Friday 28 October 2011 9:24PM
Sue: If you have a Freeview TV that was working perfectly OK before the changeover but it hasn't since, (assuming of course that you did carry out a re-tune) then it could suggest that you are receiving a signal that's too powerful and which is blocking your TV's tuner, you haven't given your location (post code) or that could possibly have been verified, or not as the case may be.

If you have a set top aerial around try that, scanning after connecting same, or even carry out a test by connecting a short piece of wire (about 2 or 3 feet) into the middle of the aerial socket, and as before scanning after connecting.

Should this result in a picture then you require to purchase an attenuator to place in line with the TV's aerial socket.

Sue: Meant also to ask the model of LG TV you have?
Sue
Saturday 29 October 2011 9:55AM
Sue: It's not Freeview. The model number is LG Flatron RZ-15LA32. I did retune after the first changeover and got a better reception than ever, then after the second changeover got nothing despite trying to retune endless times. We are in postcode B79 and that falls under the Sutton Cldfield transmitter. Hope this helps. Happy to buy set top box if necessary but wanted to check out first. Plus have nowhere to site the set top box as it is a small flatscreen mounted in the kitchen.

Saturday 29 October 2011 12:20PM
Sue: Thanks for clarifying the situation, and which unfortunately confirms your TV is now only really of any use as a monitor, the reason being that analogue signals are no longer broadcast from Sutton Coldfield, hence the reason for your problem.

If you have no room for a separate box then you don't really have any option but to purchase a similar sized TV with Freeview built in, or alternatively, and although less convenient, and that is to leave the LG in its present position and purchase a Freeview box to sit elsewhere, then use the Freeview boxes analogue RF modulator (making sure it has one!) to feed through to the LG, the LG being permanely left on the channel used by the Freeview boxes output.

The less convenient meaning, that you cannot change a channel from within the kitchen, as you would have to do it wherever the Freeview box was sited.

Hi i am able to receive all freeview channels on my tv,but can only record channels 1-5,i have rescanned dvd but no luck,i was able to record them until i moved tv ,i have checked all connections,f/v box scart going to tv, AV1 other scart from box to DVD,scart out of DVD to AV2 all arials connected hope you can help many thanks
jb38
Sunday 30 October 2011 6:37PM
R. rodford: I cant quite determine if you are meaning that you are using the DVD recorder to record from the Freeview box, or that the DVD recorder also has Freeview built in, its just that when you say you can only record from 1 - 5 it suggests analogue channels and not freeview ones, meaning that if the DVD recorder is dual standard (analogue and digital) that its set on analogue by mistake.

Maybe you could give an update on that question.

jb38
Sunday 30 October 2011 8:22PM
R. rodford: On reading your posting again, it would now suggest to me that your DVD recorder has defaulted to its tuner input, so if this applies then reset the DVD recorders input to the socket used for the Freeview boxes input.

Without knowing what DVD recorder you are referring to and assuming the TV only has one scart socket, the general way of connecting such as you have is - Freeview boxes AV1 to similar on the TV - Freeview boxes second scart socket to the DVD's AV1 scart socket, then on the DVD recorder select AV1 as being the input.

If the TV has two scart sockets, then connect the Freeview box as before but into the DVD's second scart socket, (AV2 or Ext2) selecting this as the input, then the DVD's AV1 goes to the TV's second input. (AV2 or Ext2)

Any problems then please indicate the model of DVD you have.

We have bought a panasonic digital recorder, and tv with freeview. The aerial goes into the box, which then feeds the TV. At the moment we are getting about 40 channels on the box, but the TV is picking up over 70. Can anybody expalin why that is - just sounds odd that the box is the fisrt port of call for the signal, yet the TV gets more channels - or isn't it as simple as that.

Thanks in advance

For Sue, re LG Flatron RZ-15LA32

According to my info this model has 1 SCART socket. If so, you don't need a box with a modulator as described by JB38. There are a number of Freeview devices which plug directly into a SCART socket without a lead; ie, they are behind the TV or whatever. Such devices are still available for under £30.00. I'm currently using a Metronic "Digi"Scart in such a manner.

The only drawback is you may have to bring the LG Flatron RZ-15LA32 forward from the wall to accommodate such a device, thus possibly also needing a new mounting bracket.

Mind you, with the cost of digital TVs now being so low (you should be able to get a 15" one for well under a £100) the cost of such a device and new mount may not be worth it.

Purchased new Panasonic TX-L42E30B TV. Connected my Sky box up via Panasonic PVR as per handbook diagram. I now can view Sky channels on AV2 via HDMI through PVR. How can I reset so that it is Sky that comes up first when I turn TV on? It's a pain having to go through function buttons to get to Sky. Also when I switch TV off with remote the PVR switches off as well? Can I prevent that from happening?

Andrew: This is not something that Panasonics are known for, and so if you have verified that no-one has pressed the TV button on the remote and maybe knocked it onto analogue, and if you have also checked that its aerial input lead is still firmly seated, then I would try giving the set a complete re-scan.

It would have been assistance though to have known the model number of the TV involved.

Have got a Philips Tv & BT Vision Box. The aerial is in the loft. This is a fairly new property (2 yrs) and have always managed to receive Freeview stations without any problems. Switchover took place in April 2010 without any issues. Some sort of 'upgrade' was carried out on or around September 28th which has now rendered both of these devices unwatchable. It is constantly juddering, squeaking and pixelating on all channels (even MUX1 - main BBC channels). Have tried unplugging everything so that only one device using aerial to boost the signal strength, have bought a signal booster. This has got the signal strength to 100%, but the signal quality is really rapidly flicking between 100 down to as low as 48% on a continual basis. Tried the digital switchover helpline, no help, said I needed an aerial engineer out. Can't believe that this can be the case as it was working perfectly before. At my wits end, please can someone help. P.S. can't do a manual re-tune on BT Vision or the Philips TV, so haven't managed to do this.
Dave Lindsay
Monday 7 November 2011 2:23PM
Scilla67: The fact that the strength is 100% suggests that it is too strong and overloading your tuners.

For more information on this see:

www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

I would certainly say get rid of the booster. What strength does it show without the booster being connected?

What is your post code? (DN31NJ)

Hello,

I have a philips plasma flat tv 42 with built in freeview which worked perfectly fine til sunday 5th of november. It has stopped showing digital channels since then, i can still see analogue channels.

Im in se8 5dy.

On the digital tv page i can no longer access the option 'install'(it's become grey and i cant select it) which means i cant even try to reinstall the digital channels.

Does anybody know what is this due to?
jb38
Tuesday 8 November 2011 9:59AM
Miky: After having pressed the "digital" button on the remote and used to down key to select "installation" have you tried pressing the select button "twice" to access the service menu lists? or its that you cannot even get to that point?

If though you have tried that, then completely disconnect the TV from the mains supply for about 5 minutes or so before trying again.

This being said taking it that you haven't activated the "access restrictions" menu at any time, if you have by any chance the default code is 1234, or if you have forgotten it then 0711 is the universal code.

Maybe you could mention the model of TV you have, as I am using a 42PFP5532D for reference.

I live in IP18 6HT and receive signal from Tacolneston. On 9 November we had to retune to receive all BBC channels on channel 55. This is a strong signal and has worked well for a couple of days, over the last three days however we have lost BBC channels, on looking at the channel list the set has automatically retuned to channel 28 which is for Aldeburgh, a weak transmitter for our location. On retuning back to 55 using manual tunig all is well. Can you suggest why this is happening and is it possible to stop a TV auto retuning after the first installation of correct channels. I have a Toshiba 37RV5550 LED. We do occasionally get pixellation and short transmission breaks on 55 however that is par for this location and used to occur before retuning.

I haven't been able to find the answer to this general lquestion anywhere...yet.

I have Digital TV Recorder with Freeview built in which is being used with an older type TV (without built in Freeview)

My query is: Can a Digital Recorder (which has Freeview) be used with an up-to-date TV which also has Freeview built in?
Does the Freeview in the Recorder over-ride the built in Freeview in the TV?
Than in anticipation.
Dave Lindsay
Friday 18 November 2011 4:04PM Doncaster
K Kenrick: The recorder will work independently to the built-in Freeview on the TV.

Remember the days of video recorders? Your video would have its own tuner and so too would the TV. The video worked independently of the TV and didn't replace it. The same principle applies here.

Hi
I Have a Samsung Smart TV. It was all working fine from a communal aerial which is only a year old. I got all the Freeview channels with a good final with the exception go the HD ones which had a corrupted picture. My postcode is London NW3 4NG. I bought another TV the same for another room. The final was good on BBC but corrupted in ITV C4 etc. I plugged the new TV in the existing socket of the older one and it was fine. The next day 34th Nov neither of them worked properly on ITV. Have some changes been made that could have caused this in North London
Dave Lindsay
Saturday 26 November 2011 3:27AM
Allen Stuart: Could it be your aerial lead that is at fault? Can you swap it for another?

So your communal aerial system provides you with sockets in two rooms?
