Jan: According to their specifications, the box uses 1.2 watts in Stand-by and 4.9 watts when in use, which is 25%.

This should be enough for it to come back when you use the remote, perhaps there is a fault with your box, can you return it to the store for a replacement?

I am unable to receive Freeview HD on my Panasonic TV with built-in Freeview HD. There is no problem with normal Freeview channels and my signal strength from the Emley Moor transmitter is very strong. I live within a few miles of the transmitter and can see it from my lounge window!

I have been told that there are problems with HD transmission from Emley Moor but cannot get confirmation of this. Can anyone help?

Ed Riley: You should get the service perfectly.

Just to check, you have got a Freeview HD television set, and not just a HD television set with Freeview?

Hi
I have a 42 LG freesat & Freeview tv which up until last week was fine throughout, but since last week when trying to get ITV1 ( East Anglia only on Freesat ) the sound and picture come on for 3 seconds then the picture blacks out and the sound stays, every other channel works fine including ITV1 HD I have to flick through back and forth onto the ITV1 freesat about six times then it seems to pick up OK and viewing is as it should be, I thought it was the tv but all else is spot on, can it be the freesat ITV1 signal?
I can switch to freeview on the sudbury transmitter and all is fine, but you know what its like you have freesat and want to use it.

My area switches to digital in July and as far as I know we have NO digital signal until then (Penicuik, EH26 8AG). I have been told in the shop wher I bought a Tvonics receiver that all digital freeview receivers can also receive analog signals, but when tried to setup a the receiver, it failed to find any analog channels.

I have contacted Tvonics but they dont seem to be replying. Any suggestions?
Briantist
Wednesday 22 December 2010 7:52AM
julian: No, that is not correct.

A digital recorder does not have any analogue input system - that would add considerably to the price - it only stores the digital information from Freeview.

Your box will start working on 1st June 2011, with the rest of the channels coming two weeks later.

Thank you for your confirmation.

I will return to the shop and shove the box down the throat of the young pimples sales rep who so cockily anounced that ALL freeview receivers can receive everything. he also couldn't belive the fact that we have no digital signal here before the switch over.
He stated flatly that all areas must have a test signal ay least a year before the switch

OH well, so much for training and education, but theen he no only sells tv's but also fridges, hobs, hoovres and hairdriers. Maybe he had a degree in hair drying equipment with special studies of hoovers....

Thanks again

When is the mendip receiver going to start transmitting Sky Sports 1 and 2 on Mux B? And does this work include an improved output from Mux A?
Briantist
Wednesday 22 December 2010 3:06PM
Trish: It's not, the services will be carried on multiplex COM6, possibly from the middle of January. MuxB has been replaced by PSB3, the high definition multiplex.

Sky HD+ box. Is it possible to feed both dish inputs from one lead from the LNB?
Just a tempoary setup until the weather is more conducive to getting on the roof to add another coax feed. If not can dish input 2 be disabled on box to prevent timed recordings being lost?
Bob
Briantist
Monday 27 December 2010 6:58AM
Bob Loader: No, two cables are required (would you not think that Sky might have thought of this?)

Timed recordings will be lost if you leave the device on (rather than in stand-by) with only a single input.

Hello. Sorry if this question is in the wrong place. We live in France and have a skyplus subscription which has worked fine for years. We have just purchased a freesat box so we can watch tv in another room. My husband plugged it into a quad LNB where the sky is also plugged into on the same dish and the signal is fine and we can watch the freesat TV however we now cannot record a channel and watch another on the Sky system we can only watch and record one channel and often when we turn the box on we have no signal on any channels until we turn the power back off and on. We can't work out what the problem is and it is driving us bad. Are we missing something? Do you have any suggestions? Kind regards
Briantist
Tuesday 28 December 2010 7:20PM
Louise: Sounds like the second link to the quad LNB from the Sky+ box is no longer working.

It may have come out when you were fitting the new link in.

Take care you have the power off when you check it.

Thanks for the reply. We will check it out shortly. My husband says there are four ports on the dish and he wants to know if they all do the same job so he can swop them around or does the sky plus need to be in a specific port? Thanks again

Tuesday 28 December 2010 7:28PM
Louise: All four LNBs in the package are the same.

Remember to turn the satellite receiver power off first.

Hi, I'm having a terrible problem with my freeview. We have bought a new lg tv (in built freeview)for our bedroom and it's the only freeview tv in the house. We lve in Caerphilly CF83 1HR and when the weather was just overcast, we would lose all bbc channels, when the weather was worse, we would lose all the channels. we have had a new tv aerial in prep for the changeover. Now in the last few weeks, we can not receive any stations, can some one help, it's driving me nuts!! I've looked at the aerial and its still in place. We have tried retuning the tv and now we are not getting any channels.

Hi, I have left a message on another page on here too. Any advice or help ASAP would be amazing!

Our reception on ITV, c4 etc has been variable (all the multplex 2 channels). Sometimes it is very fuzzy and sometimes says just no signal. Yesterday it was fuzzy so I twiddled the aerial at the back, which improved it and then lost it entirely. I then tried to retune and research for channels, and have done this 4 times, and the TV is not picking up any of the Multiplex 2 channels. I have spoken to local TV companies who say I need a new aerial. Do you think this is correct? How much should you pay for this? Thanks

I have a new Freeview box. It's a Humax HDR FOX T2. It's set to 1080P in the menus and my TV is an LG 32LC56 and has a 1080P input. Both are connected by an HDMI cable.
When the channel info is displayed (say on changing channel) an icon on the display shows 1080i for HD channels. Why is this 1080i and not 1080p?

I have another question. I live high in the west of Ivybridge and have my freeview aerial pointed at Caradon Hill, which is listed as horizontal polarisation. But I get a stronger signal with the aerial set vertically. Plympton is not line of sight from me, but do you think I am receiving a reflection from vertically polarised Plympton? How can I tell for sure which transmitter I am receiving from?
Notes: I've aligned the aerial using a compass, but tried moving it about. I know I'm not receiving the local Ivybridge transmitter as I'm getting more channels than that carries - but not the complete set of Caradon (or Plympton) I've had to use an aerial amplifier to avoid occasional drop-out but then the aerial is in my loft (going just through tiles). However with my old Sagem two-tuner box I did not need the amplifier.

Blackhill Transmitter
Full Range Scans
Pre-wired Wall Sockets
Postcode check ok's HD channels
Sony Bravia KDL32ex503u

1. Plugged telly direct to wall socket and the first few AutoScans found 103 channels including the HD ones but the HD breaking easily and unwatchable (50,51 etc)

2. Plugged in a signal booster and all of a sudden HD came to life with good signal strength and quality for at least 3 days. Also improved the SD channels strength and quality.

3. Moved the booster (by mistake) lost all HD and some SD channels.

4. Re-scanned Auto and Manual (with booster plugged in) only 66 channels coming in no HD channels not even the channel number.

5. Unplugged the booster - telly now back to wall socket only - auto re-scanned, 103 channels reappear including the HD ones this time holding a constant picture allbeit mid signal strength and low-mid signal quality.

For how long the HD will hold who knows but that's a day or so now.

Can I improve/check the quality of the coaxial cable/sockets? probably :) or try the signal booster again? or try an internal high gain aerial (I have since heard these can be more trouble than they are worth likewise the boosters)

any advice would be appreciated.

I have a new Panasonic plasma TV with built in Freeview HD, at the same time we bought the new sharp Freeview HD plus recorder in order to record programs whilst watching another program. Both units are connected by a very expensive HDMI cable. The picture quality is great and signal strength good boosted by a digital areal booster.
However we are getting a random picture drop out that lasts about a second or so sometimes followed closely by another there can be a gap as long as 30 minutes before it happens again or it can be shorter say around 10 minutes. Sound is not affected and continues whilst the picture disappears. This is very frustrating please help.
Briantist
Tuesday 11 January 2011 8:52AM
GREG: I'm sorry to hear you have wasted money on an HDMI cable. As digital links, they are designed to be inexpensive - if you have spend more than £5 on one you have been ripped off.

Sounds typical of what happens if you use a booster with digital reception. I would try disconnecting it from your system, as it seems to be helping you receive additional interference.

I live in Aberdeen. The map says I should receive my signal from either Balgownie 1.5 miles or Durris 15.4 miles. According to my TV info I receive signal from Highland & Islands. Signal strength is only ever 61-71, How can I improve this please.
Briantist
Friday 14 January 2011 8:38AM
Susan: You do not need to improve the signal strength, that is perfectly good. For digital reception it is the quality that matters.

"Highland & Islands" simply refers to the old Grampian TV region.

Saturday 15 January 2011 4:04PM
Susan: Testing on one of my own Humax freeview boxes the only warnings I get given are (1) No or bad signal", the reason for this being somewhat self explanatory as the test was done by allowing the signal to drop down through un-powering the aerial amp, or (2) "Channel scrambled or is not available", with this being the warning you will get if you select either a subscription channel or one that has stopped broadcasting for the evening, for example CBBC or CBeebies after 7pm in the evening.

What you have seen has to be caused by one of these things mentioned.

i get the message intermittently on genuine channels throughout the programme I am watching. Which means the programme is frozen for about 30 seconds then continues. I would not be watching a channel after it closes as all you get is a black screen.

Monday 17 January 2011 4:17PM
Susan - As you are receiving these messages on a Humax freeview box that indicates the reception is suffering from intermittent strength / quality problems, the latter being the more important as indeed Briantist has already mentioned, as the 61-71% strength you report is perfectly OK on a Humax box.

For a test you should leave the strength / quality scale running for a while whilst observing it, as if you do I am sure you will see dips showing up every now and again roughly corresponding to the time scale of the picture break ups experienced.

The other thing you could do is to note what the MUX channel number is (not EPG number)associated with the scale you are viewing, this done preferably whilst you are on the programme EPG number that gives you the most problems.
