We have just returned from a month away from home. We retuned the digiboxes/tvs on 30th Sept and all was OK. Now I cannot receive BBC1,2,3 on the tv in the lounge, despite retuning several times. All the other tvs in the house receive all freeview channels. How can I retune to be able to receive all the freeview channels in the lounge? (All tvs receive the signal from the same aerial) Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

Edwina : Try a retune on your lounge TV with the aerial out to wipe it clean then begin a second retune with the aerial in. This may solve the problem. If not try a manual tune on Channel 62. Pete

Not too sure Chris try putting FAQs into the Google search box at the top of this page (Black background section) to see if the experts have an answer to that one. Don't know much about SKY I'm afraid, never had any SKY equipment. Where does your signal come from ? Are you sure its FREEVIEW? Pete

I am using a tv with a freeview box and a tv with built in freeview. before the switch over I was able to watch digital and analog programs ok. when the digital switch over happened in our area i retuned both the tv with built in freeview and the digital box but I am unable to pick up any signal from my aerial on both. Can you give me some advice

Hugh:Check that your IDTV and freeview box are not on the list of equipment that does not support the 8k mode.If it is on the list a new freeview box will be required. Then clear the channel list by returning the receivers to factory settings or doing a scan with the aerial disconected.Reconnect the aerial and do a scan for channels.

Hugh- Further the to KMJ,Derby post, I am admit to not being an aerial expert, but is your aerial an high gain type?(contact aerial contractor)

Also, if you have any type of booster fitted, remove these.

I live in the republic of Ireland, approx 10 miles from the border. I can get bbc1 bbc2 utv and ch4 through an old fashioned aerial. Would i be able to use a set top box?

Iain, Get a UK Freeview box and try it! If your UK analogue signal is ok then digital signal should be ok.
Iain

we have a booster on the aeriel, would that affect it?
Iain Davies
Monday 18 January 2010 7:53PM
Iain, As long as your analogue picture is "Snow" and "Ghost" free and you get good Teletext you should be ok. Give it a go, experiment! - If Baird had not experimented with TV, where would be today?

I have just moved to the UK (London W8)and am a bit baffled by free TV reception. I plugged my digital Tv monitor into my apartment building's cable/antenna outlet in my flat (2 ports labeled TV and SET) and am receiving s set of channels: BBC 1 and 2, ITV, ITV 2, 4 and 5. I cannot seem to pick up BBC 3 and 4 in the evenings, even when I "auto scan" for channels on my monitor. Any suggestions for improving my channel options?

Thanks for your help.

Have checked list as suggested but have got nowhere, have good picture on some channels, channels affected seem to be the ITVs and channel 4. Both TVs are affected the same, 1 has a freeview box connected and the other is a new LG with freeview built in. Seems strange that this has only just occured when they have been working perfectly as I said the analogue signal is perfect but the digital signal is showing very weak or a message saying'NO SIGNAL' Have unpluuged everything and wiped all data from box and retuned, but no better.

This is a really helpful website and has taught me a lot about TV signal transmission. On this basis several months ago we installed a wideband aerial in our loft (outside aerial is not permitted here) and an amplifier nearby. We then got signal qualities of 10 on all groups except 8 on Ch45. Great. But recently the house has been re-roofed, the loft receiving wool roof insulation and Klober roofing membrane under the same tiles. All channels were still fine except Ch45 whose signal quality dropped to a tolerable 6. But since then, it has suddenly dropped to a variable 1-5 which is unusable. Klober deny their membranes have any effect on signals. Have you any idea why Mux2 and MuxA(transmitting at 2000W), are fine while MuxB(Ch45)at 3000W is not?

Gordon Hardwick: it's often said that RF is a black art. Different materials resonate at different frequencies and may block different signals.

Which transmitter do you think you're using?

If you've had workmen in the loft recently, I'd check that everything is still connected up, that the aerial isn't damaged, and that it's still pointing in the right direction.

Mike, Thanks very much. As a reslut of using the website we switched from Tunbridge Wells to Bluebell Hill. The roofers actually did knock the aerial connection and we lost the lot, but everything then went back OK. The aerial was untouched and at that time it was fine.
You may be right about the resonance. What a good idea! The membrane is claimed to resist UV but the frequency of UV is so much higher. I'll investigate that theory. It may account for the specificity of the signal loss. But rather than remove the membrane right away, I'll test by adding another layer or two and see if that degrades the signal significantly further. Many thanks for your suggestions.

What has happened to the BBC signal from the Selkirk transmitter. The signal strength from last friday has dropped dramatically to the point we can no longer receive BBC1,2,3,&4?

Hi
our flat is brand new. and we got a sky technician out to install sky HD. However, a 'no signal messgae' popped up when everything was plugged in. Apparently we have heard from the flat complex's contractor that everything has been sorted, as we may have not been connected to their system. Is there any way i can check if there is now signal coming through our jacks/ sockets before getting the sky engineer to come out again. Can i use an old sky box to test to see if there is signal? Without a working sky card?
Any help with this would me most appreciated..
Joseph

Joseph: Can you not used the Sky+HD box that is already plugged in? It should be able to show you the signal levels on the two inputs.
