Try this first... www.ukfree.tv link icon My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4 or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent digital TV and switchover advice - if not check your cables and connectors ... if not it might be your VCR, games console or Sky Digibox.

Hi
I have a cable input from Smallworld (wightcable) which has a splitter into an RF input and output on their supplied box. I don't have a rooftop arial.

I presently run 3 TVs from the RF out but when I try and use a freeview box on one of the remote ones I get a NO SIGNAL when scanning channels.

I have friends also on Smallworld who have used digital televsions successfully with the RF .
Any Ideas?

denis: cable TV uses the DVB-S standard, which is different to DVB-T used by Freeview. You basically cannot use a Freeview box with cable. Cable TV decoders are similar, but different.

Thanks Briantist.

I'm not trying to replace the cable suppliers box with freeview, just use it's RF out signal to then feed a freeview box in another room. The TV I use on this feed (through an amplifier/splitter) is at present getting the 5 analogue and 1 digital signals with a good picture. I had hoped to just pick up the RF signal in the same way the TV does but through a freeview box first.

Denis: As I said, unless you feed a signal from a TV aerial pointing at a Freeview transmitter a Freeview box will provide no services whatsoever.

Thanks again, I'll need to look at getting an arial fited as i'll need freeview on the other tv's when analogue is shut down.

This is general information about Freeview, - that is, when using the set top box (costs about £20).
After considerable research I find that before the switch over to digital freeview, that the main transmitters are transmitting on reduced power (about 70%), so as not to interfere with the present analogue channels. When the anologue channels cease, full transmitter power will commence for the new digital service.
However, if you are not presently receiving digital through a digibox, then wait for your local transmitter to commence transmission in approx 2 to 4 years depending on where you live in the country. The local transmitters will provide a much better signal and better reception than signals from main transmitters e.g., Wenvoe in Wales.

I hope this helps someone out there.

Tuesday 3 July 2007 5:19PM
Clive Jenkins: The power level is considerably below 70% - in many cases it's 10% or lower. Please see www.ukfree.tv link icon UK Digital switchover simulation | ukfree.tv - independent digital TV and switchover advice for details. For example, Wenvoe's Freeview power increase from 5833 W to 70000 W, 12 times stronger on Tuesday 30th March 2010

over the past 6 weeks digital reception on itv 4 & 5 is awful.so much so that the picture frequently drops completely and the screen goes blank.
My outdoor ariel is 18 elements High gain.
The question is, I live in the fulwood area of Preston (Lancashire) PR2 7E. What is the actual date the power from the transmitter be increased and by what percentage ?

i wondered why it has gone this way...i have a tv with built in freeview and a humax pvr and they both have this problem, also in another room have a philips freeview box, again same problem. was wondering whether it is a fault at htere end. does anyone else have this problem

barrytibbles: thousands of people all over the UK. When they swapped all the channels around on multiplex 2 when Channel 4+1 was introduced, the way most set-top boxes work most people have problems with ITV-2, ITV-3. I did mention this to Channel 4 before it happened, because it was clear it would with the published EPG allocations.

Hi, at present I have freeview but I do suffer from intermitant pixelation on all digital channels except bbc, or occasionally the signal strength is too low to receive anything. I would like to run an aerial extension to my sons room and another to the kitchen but have been told that this will reduce my signal strength even more. Do I need a new digital aerial and if so should I go for a high gain aerial. My postcode is PR3 1ND.
P.S I have suffered this problem with both a seperate freeview box and intergrated tv.

OK David of Gravesend here again. I've now had three engineers all say the same thing, there's interference on channel 22 that kills itv, chanel 4, etc. So I don't need a new aerial or anything new, I just need someone to find the interference. How do I do that? In the old days didn't the GPO have responsibility for TV singal stuff? Who does now? I've also discovered that our nieghbours also have the same problem, so please don't point me to the interfernce page again.

Hi,

I live in Fife KY8 - have wideband Freeview ariel in the attic poinited toward Craigkelly. I have lately had trouble with BBC4, which broke up completely the other evening (then picutre with loss of sound + pixilation) . Should I reset my Freeview box? I understand BBC4 has a strong signal. I wonder whetherr it is the RF connection - could it be oxidation of the contacts? Anything I can do about that apart from emery paper (tried, it doesn't always help) However, sometimes when I move the cable the picture breaks up/or gets better. This is an annoying and intermitent issue. I'd like to get to the bottom of.

I have recently changed my tv set to a flat screen LCD. It has built in freeview.
I receive my tv signals from the Mendip transmitter.
Can you tell me why the picture quality is varying so much, some days near perfect and other days awful.

I have a LCD tv with integrated freeview. I have recently changed my aerial to one capable of receiving digital signals and the work was carried out by a professional installer, who informs me that I am now receiving a stong signal.
I live in Clevedon BS21 a good reception area and receive transmissions from the Mendip transmitter.
Can you tell me why the picture quality is varying so much, some days perfect and others very poor.
The TV set is a renowned make and was highly reviewed

Hi,
my father bought and I installed a 'Silvercrest SL65' box and dish just before christmass.
Although the book says the usual sat to train on is Astra 19, when carrying out an interigation of the box it seemed that Astra 28 was the only one supporting UK BBC and ITV channels, and so I set up for this Sat.
All seemed ok till just after christmass when the BBC and ITV channels disapeared to be replaced by 'no signal'. All I get now are a couple of french and african channels.
Help please would be appreciated !!

I have had Freeview for about 15 months now and since installing a wideband aerial I have had no trouble getting a good picture on all channels. About two weeks ago the Mux D channels including Film 4 just failed. Their signal strength was low to zero and so I tried a reset. I then could not see the channels in the lineup at all. At this time my local transmitter, Sutton Coldfield, were doing "improvements". I have tried three freeview boxes but all have the same problem. The aerial has not moved. On manual setup the Mux D on channel 55 shows no signal strength at all. Have SC stopped broadcasting Mux D?
Has anyone any other solutions?

Thanks

Hello have just replaced my CRT tv with 37" LCD. Trouble is BBC1 ok and ITV1 ok etc but it would seem the channels which piggy back off these are not so stong and the screen is effected especially on moving pictures such as footbal or the like. The people for example have a form of pixel indentation around them. But the strong signals do not. Am I right in saying the signals do piggy back /share. If so what is the correct and best way to overcome this. As I say CRT did not show this just lower definition. Satanta is one such channel which comes off channel five. Should freview airials be ok and the signals the same.
Briantist
Friday 29 February 2008 9:59AM
Mac: Channels do not in any sense "piggy back" on the existing services. However, the low bandwidth allocated to some services makes appear poor on very large screens. This is because CRT TVs are very low resolution, so you can't tell the difference between the services, but with an LCD TV you can. This is what HD is for.

I have been using a Toshiba Regza digital/HD ready for about one year. Throughout that time we have had perfectly adequate signal strength from Belmont in Lincolnshire and which I can see from my garden. It will be about 14 miles distant. Over several weeks the signal strength has become an issue and for the past week has been poor or none! (A message appears in the top LH corner of the screen). If I retune every channel is reported as "Good". The most frustrating thing is that there appears to be absolutely no wish by the BBC to offer a facility through which to report these serious problems. I have searched their web site in vain.

DAB radio is not plagued by these problems.

Yet another example of the public having been sold something which in truth is more to the benfit of the service providers than the consumer.
